*The Misconception About Positioning On A Vertical Line PT. 2
This is the second part of a three part series. In this section we will look closer into how to effectively use vertical inefficiency to progress passed a space oriented defense and how using the reference points in the context of the 4 -Diamond -2 structure can help create dynamic superiority.
Playing Vs A Space Oriented Defense
As the name implies a space oriented defense has a larger emphasis on controlling certain areas on the field rather than marking certain players. In a space oriented defense there will be a large emphasis on compactness and controlling key dangerous areas. An example of a key dangerous area can be between the CBs and CMs or as many people refer to it as the 10 space. A space oriented defense uses the other three reference points as well, but they use them to ultimately control space. For example, the ball dictates which area of the field the general shape of the defense will be in, the team on defense will use each other as reference points for distances among each other ensuring that they have adequate compactness to control the proper space, finally, the defense will take reference from the opponents for triggers like pressing/pressure cues. This is one example and in order to progress and unbalance a defense it can be easier to do so when doing so with these little details in mind.
How Can We Use Vertical Inefficiency In This Situation
